Breast Conservation Surgery

Breast Conservation Surgery

In breast conservation surgery, the tumor in the breast is removed as well as the surrounding normal tissue and lymph nodes in the armpit. The remaining portion of the normal breast is preserved.

After Breast Conservation Surgery, the patient will need to have radiation therapy. Breast Conservation Surgery is not possible in patients with big tumors, inflammatory breast cancer, cancers in several breast quadrants, pregnancy, or connective tissue diseases.

Compared to removing the entire breast, Breast Conservation Surgery has psychological and aesthetic benefits. Breast Conservation Surgery and mastectomy both had equal long-term survival and recurrence rates.
